Home for the Holidays
I just returned from celebrating Christmas with my family, and I’m so glad we were able to carve out a time in all our busy schedules to see each other if only for a short time. So much holiday cheer filled with Christmas movies, decorating the tree, exchanging presents, long walks in the snow, blazing fireplaces, and decorating gingerbread houses! The months where the cold weather forces us to huddle inside around friends and family clinking glasses to the never ending Christmas tunes is only a small sliver of why the holiday season is by far my favourite time of year.
We decorated gingerbread houses, which I always find so fun! I emphasize the decorating part, because building the initial structure is an absolute test of my patience. RIP to my collapsed wall, but I heard open concept living is the hot new thing! And, yes, I did hand place every single one of those individual sprinkles. It took me took me an hour and many of the sprinkles ended up on the floor, but the end result was *chef’s kiss*.
I never ask for or expect gifts from my family, because their presence means so much more to me. However when they insist on getting me something I always request very small presents like cookies or household essentials like toilet paper. Although I feel bashful accepting gifts from family I absolutely love to give them. The feeling of seeing their faces light up when they open a present warms my heart to the core.
Thank you to all my lovely dates this month that have made it possible for me to spend time with family. Your considerations and gifts allowed me to spoil them and give them all they deserve. They’ve given me so much, and my heart is full knowing I could return the favour.
