The Solo Holiday
There’s no shame in spending the holidays alone. Whether you don’t have family near by/alive or a good relationship with them, friends and family have made other plans, the holidays aren’t significant, you’d rather spend your vacation in solitude, and everything else in-between.
There tends to be a lot of pressure during this time of year to spend it with others, but whether you decide to spend the holidays alone voluntarily or involuntarily you should find a way to enjoy this time on your own terms. Many restaurants host Thanksgiving, Christmas and NYE dinners these days, and I’m a big fan of the solo dining experience. Cooking your favourite meal, traveling to a different city, checking in to a local hotel for a staycation, enjoying a book or your favourite hobby uninterrupted, or simply catching up on your new TV show with takeout are all fantastic ways to enjoy your holiday. The holidays are only as significant as you make them, so I think it’s best not to dwell on the idea of being solo and think of it as a normal day off.
However, I understand spending the holidays alone can be difficult for some, and spending it with someone is a much more enjoyable experience. If you’d like to spend it with your favourite provider, then please reach out. I think some people are embarrassed to not have plans for the holidays, but it’s so sweet to receive an inquiry from someone wanting to spend the festive months with you.
Spend the holidays alone or together all I hope is that you find happiness during these months
